Somebody Say Something!  -  by Regina Funkhouser

I Pledge Allegiance...!

Conflict of interest is a sneaky beast that rears its head in odd places.

We speak to many people about issues of conflict. When we teach board basics – it’s one of the topics that get the most questions and conversation. It’s tricky, confusing and can catch us by surprise.

What makes the concept of conflict of interest so difficult is that the definition in the non-profit world is very different than in the for-profit world.  In the for-profit world, conflict is identified by money – who has it and who wants it.  In the non-profit world, conflict is defined by allegiance.

Don't Get Buried in Grant's Tomb - Pansophy for Nonprofits by Diane

This month's topic:
I Love to Write Grants

If this is your mantra, we need to know who you are.

Quite frequently, Nonprofit Network is asked for names of grantwriters. Sometimes organizations are looking for someone skilled in putting their ideas, data, and needs into an application. Others are not sure how to begin and want someone to take care of the entire application from start to finish. We know that many of you are expert grantwriters and may be willing to... Read More

Get your grant writing questions answered here! Diane McDonald, Education & Training Director, will be fielding the tough questions you've been asking. Share your grant writing struggles and successes with us and each month she will post your comments, suggestions, or answer your questions on how NOT to get buried in grant’s tomb! diane@nonprofnetwork.org

Leadership Book Club - June 28, 2012

Multipliers: How the Best Leaders Make Everyone Smarter by Liz Wiseman with Greg McKeown

Are you a genius or a genius maker? We've all had experience with two dramatically different types of leaders. The first type drain intelligence, energy, and capability from the ones around them and always need to be the smartest ones in the room. These are the idea killers, the energy sappers, the diminishers of talent and commitment. On the other side of the spectrum are leaders who use their intelligence to amplify the smarts and capabilities of the people around them. When these leaders walk into a room, lightbulbs go off over people's heads, ideas flow, and problems get solved.

Books are available for checkout - many in ebook formats! Or they are available for purchase from our online bookstore: www.nonprofnetwork.org/LeadershipBookClub
